7 Ways To Prepare Your Skin For Winter
Winter is officially upon us – which means drier air and colder temperatures. The lower moisture levels in the air can lead to dry and dehydrated skin conditions.
Not only is it essential to change-up your skincare routine in anticipation for the coming months, but below are some tips and tricks to keep in mind when trying to avoid your skin becoming a victim this season!
1. Master The Short Shower
Hot water can strip away the skin’s natural oils – especially if your skin is exposed to too much of it! So keep your bath or shower time short – and remember to always use warm water – never hot!
2. Moisturise Quickly
Apply your body moisturiser within 2 minutes of showering or washing your hands. This helps to trap water and lock-in moisture. Consider swapping your moisturiser for a body oil. Our Baobab oil is a wonderful option when it comes to providing extra moisture.
3. Be gentle with your skin
Exfoliate your body once a week, but be gentle. Avoid over-scrubbing, as this damages the skin and compromises the lipid barrier affecting its ability to retain moisture. Furthermore, its important that you avoid rubbing your skin dry, opt for gently patting it instead.
4. Get Humid
Heaters (and air-conditioners) dry out the air, irritating your skin and exacerbating existing dry skin conditions. Use a humidifier in your home and office to fill the air with moisture. Aim for an indoor humidity of about 50%.
5. Don’t forget your lips
Keep a moisturising lip balm in your handbag and use it regularly! Make sure it has an SPF to protect against chapped lips. Our Mongongo Lip Butter is the perfect Winter essential to keep your lips moisturised and protected this season.
6. Don’t Neglect Your Sunscreen
Most people incorrectly assume that the colder temperature and cloudy skies mean that they are immune to sun-damage. Don’t be fooled into thinking that you’re protected from harmful UV-rays just because the sun is hiding behind the clouds; that is often when you are most at risk! Be sure to use our SPF40 daily for protection.
7. Choose the correct products for your skin
Just like you switch out your Summer dresses in favour of a warmer Winter wardrobe, the same rule should apply to your skincare products. Kalahari has composed the ideal products to get you through this Winter including our Gentle Cleansing Milk, Nourishing Face & Neck Mask, Phyto Comfort Lotion, Marula Face Oil, Phyto Rich Moisturiser and Omega+ Complex.
